Benefits of Personal Training or Online Coaching

What does the evidence say about personal training or online coaching?

The benefits of personal training or online coaching, according to evidence, has shown that working with a personal trainer increases adherence to exercise. This is likely due to the extra motivation and accountability that comes with working with a ‘good’ coach. This also extends to online coaching, which arguably holds even more accountability due to the frequent contact between coach and client compared to face-to-face contact. For example, when I work with clients, we regularly talk on a daily basis which allows clients to ask questions when faced with problems. The conversation is almost more relaxed and open, allowing clients to express the challenges they face in a more comfortable environment. There are also methods such as snap-n-send that allow you to track and communicate your food in seconds with an online trainer. You can receive real-time advice instead of having to wait for your next session.

Programme design and Nutrition

The programme design should be tailored, which is a word nearly every personal trainer or online coach uses within their selling pitch. In truth, exercise is quite simple but needs to be sustainable and progressive. The same is said with nutrition, and often trainers overcomplicate the theory and try unnecessary methods. Within nutrition, the methods should be simple and sustainable, which takes a holistic view of an individual. This means taking into account the day-to-day life of individuals to understand their nutritional needs. Without this information, you will often follow the same plan, which will have little impact on your health or athletic performance due to each day varying energy expenditure.

The cost of Nutrition and an Exercise Specialist

There is also a cost element; despite the benefits, not everyone wants to pay £40 per hour for a personal trainer. Whereas an online coach costs around £3.30 per day, which means you get far more bang for your buck! If you are struggling with exercise and/or nutrition, it is worth having a conversation with a nutritionist to see how they can help and support you. Contact Strength and Nutrition today to see how we can assist you in your nutrition and fitness goals.

The great part about working with good nutritionists and exercise specialists is that we actually do want to help, plus we get excited about your goals. There is nothing better when someone reaches what we set out to achieve whether you are an athlete, clinical population or a person looking to improve their health & wellbeing. – it is the best part of the job!.

Have the traditional methods changed?

The traditional method of visiting your personal trainer in the gym is still a good way to achieve your goals and if that works for you, then stick at it. However, if you find yourself needing that flexibility and more support, then potentially look into online coaching. You may also have a busy job or travelling a lot for sporting events. Working with an online coach, you have often had the support needed throughout your working week. For example, a client may be faced with a day of low motivation and really not feeling up to the plan you have both set out. This is okay and perfectly normal for everyone to feel at certain points, but you can contact your online coach and find solutions together to help you throughout the day. Athletes or average gym-goer always have days where they struggle, and having that support and advice can really make the difference to taking a step in the right direction.

How does strength and nutrition work

I now work 95% as an online nutrition coach and an exercise specialist as this is best way I have found to support clients. You should feel supported by an online coach and regularly receive educational support for your sustainable goals whether you are an athlete, clinical population or a person looking to improve their health & wellbeing.

Always ask to see your coach’s qualifications and, to a minimum, registration to SENR which is what strength and nutrition are registered to.
